Editorial Standards and Corrections
How the Island Security Policy Institute (ISPI) researches, attributes, reviews and corrects what it publishes.
Bylines
Blog analysis and explainers are published under the byline ISPI Research Staff. Research papers carry the name of their author. ISPI is led by its founder and executive director, Warren Pulley.
Sources and figures
ISPI cites primary sources where they exist (government reports, court records, legislation and official statements), along with reputable news reporting and published research, and links to them where possible. Figures are attributed to their source. When a figure cannot be verified, ISPI leaves it out or describes it as an estimate.
Summaries of ISPI research papers are written from the paper itself. They do not add facts or figures the paper does not contain.
Analysis and opinion
ISPI pieces state when they are giving ISPI's assessment rather than reporting a fact. Assessments are based on the sources cited and on ISPI's practitioner experience.
AI-assisted research tools
ISPI uses AI-assisted tools for literature review and drafting support. Published findings and recommendations are reviewed and approved by people at ISPI. See About ISPI for ISPI's research independence policy.
Corrections
To report an error, email ISPIGlobal@proton.me with the page address and the correction. ISPI reviews each report, corrects verified errors on the page and updates the page's modified date. Significant corrections are noted on the page.
Independence and status
Commissioning clients do not control ISPI's findings (see Commission research). ISPI is a nonprofit organization founded in Honolulu in 2026; its application for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status is pending. Contributions are not tax-deductible until IRS recognition is granted.
